2025 is here – and I think it is amazing that we are already nearly one quarter of the way through the 21st century!
The New Year is in many ways a fresh start and an opportunity for reflection. There are a lot of possibilities as we
think about the next twelve months. What could you do more of, do less of, start or stop?

Lots of people decide to make NewYear’s resolutions to lose weight, get a new job, clean out the garage, etc.,
etc. However, 95% of New Year’s resolutions are abandoned by the end of January – why is this?

  • Your goal might be too big (maybe set smaller goals to ease yourself into the change).
  • You aren’t asking “why?” (why do you REALLY want this change?) You might just be looking for something to
mention to other people – you haven’t actually committed to real change.

People who make New Year’s resolutions on a whim are unlikely to succeed. Making NO New Year’s resolutions
might actually be a more reliable way to achieve your goals for the upcoming year. Shift your mindset from
making New Year’s resolutions to creating lasting change throughout your entire life.

In every chapter of our lives, it is possible to become better and better versions of ourselves. However – life has
no remote. You have to get up and change it yourself. What can a person do in 2025 regarding Montgomery?

  • Get involved as a volunteer. We have Boards and Commissions and a wide range of other volunteer roles.
  • Take the (MCLA) Montgomery Citizens’ Leadership Academy class and learn a lot!
  • Look into and take advantage of the resources the City is connecting people with to improve mental health – (yours or someone else’s).
  • Attend a City event you have never been to – there is always a lot going on.
  • Check out some restaurants or businesses you have not been to yet.
  • Some people will come into the City as new residents in 2025 – let’s make sure they feel welcomed.

Some neighborhoods really work hard at this, and it makes a difference.

And, if you do lose weight, get a new job, and/or clean out your garage etc., that would be great.

Hopefully, 2025 will be your best year ever – Happy New Year!
