Beautification and Tree Commission Enhancing Tornado Memorial

Montgomery’s Beautification and Tree Commission and Public Works has committed to beautifying one of the City’s tornado memorials located on the property at Sycamore High school. In late April, to coincide with Arbor Day, the commission will have plantings of native trees and shrubbery placed around the memorial that was relocated from its original site during the construction of the school’s new football field complex. The memorial is a remembrance of the devastating tornado that came through Blue Ash, Symmes, and Montgomery. The 2013 Montgomery Citizens’ Leadership Academy refurbished the memorial that year as their class project, and it was time to update the landscaping again, especially after the recent construction. Public Works recently added two benches to the memorial, and the commission sees this project as a great way to continue to honor the victims who died on April 9, 1999, along with first responders, volunteers, and residents.
