Self-Harm & Non-Suicidal Self Injury in Children and Teens Presentation

Self-harm in children and teenagers is a serious issue that affects a significant portion of young people. Approximately 17% of adolescents report engaging in self-harm at least once, with the average age of onset being around 13 years old and behaviors peaking at about 16 years old. This behavior, also known as non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), involves deliberately inflicting harm on one’s body without the intent to end one’s life.
