Montgomery City Council is considering an ordinance to allow approved low-speed vehicles, primarily golf carts, on City Streets with speed limits of 35 mph or lower. While the move aims to increase mobility options for residents, it requires drivers to adhere to specific regulations, traffic laws, and other responsibilities such as valid insurance.

To operate a golf cart legally on city streets, the vehicle must be inspected by Montgomery Police. Once a golf cart is inspected by our Police Department, the owner would then go to the BMV to get it registered and purchase license plates just like a car. The golf cart must be operated by a licensed driver and adhere to all traffic laws.

The vehicles must be equipped with safety features, including a windshield, headlights, taillights, seatbelts for all seated positions, mirrors, and valid insurance.
