Patrol Officer Examination Announcement
The City of Montgomery is establishing an eligible list for the patrol officer position. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and be a minimum of 21 years of age. Applicants must also possess an Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) certification at appointment. If the applicant does not have an OPOTA certification at the time of the examination, the applicant must be currently enrolled in an OPOTA certification program. Documentation of OPOTA certification or current enrollment is required at the time of application.
A written exam will be administered by National Testing Network (NTN). Candidates must register and take the exam through the NTN website at www.nationaltestingnetwork.com anytime during the testing period of November 26 through December 31, 2024. Candidates must achieve a score of 70% or higher in order to qualify to be placed on the eligible list.
Applicants who possess an associate degree or the equivalent of two years of course credit towards a baccalaureate degree at an accredited college or university at the time of examination and receive a passing score on the written exam will receive an additional 5 percentage points on the written exam score.
Applicants with an honorable or general discharge from the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, Air National Guard, or Merchant Marine (or have transferred to the reserve with evidence of satisfactory service) and receive a passing score on the written exam will receive an additional 5 percentage points on the written exam score. Documentation of discharge (DD214) or transfer to the reserve (copy of military ID card) must be submitted with the employment application.
Three openings are anticipated to be filled, and panel interviews will be scheduled for the top 15 test scorers after the written exam results are certified by the City of Montgomery Civil Service Commission.
A completed City of Montgomery employment application form along with documentation of OPOTA certification (or documentation of current enrollment in an OPOTA certification program), must be received at Montgomery City Hall, 10101 Montgomery Road, Montgomery, OH 45242 by 4:00PM, Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
Successful candidates must be able to pass an extensive background investigation, a polygraph exam, psychological exam and medical physical exam. Pay range: $38.68 – 46.19 per hour DOQ. EOE/ADA
