Police Safety Programs

From time to time we have inquiries to perform a criminal records check on individuals. Our agency can only release information on incidents that occurred here in the city limits of Montgomery. We can do a local records check, however, if you need arrest information that occurred in a neighboring city, county or state, you must have those done at the Hamilton County Justice Center, 1000 Sycamore St., Cincinnati, Ohio.  This is the ONLY agency in Hamilton County that can perform a criminal history records check for other agencies. National WebCheck is a fingerprint-based applicant background check system that was developed to support the electronic processing of criminal background checks at State and Federal levels for applicants in the State of Ohio. This Web-based solution addresses the needs of Ohio agencies—both public and private—that rely on background checks for hiring and other mandated purposes.  Local WebCheck providers are listed below:

Montgomery  Police provides fingerprinting service for those needing the “ink” prints for certain licenses or employers.  The party that is requesting you to be fingerprinted MUST provide you with the cards.  These are not stocked at our location.  Please bring your cards and a photo ID to the Safety Center at 10150 Montgomery Rd.  This service is provided for Montgomery residents and for those that work in the City of Montgomery FREE of charge.

The Hamilton County Justice Center at 1000 Sycamore St., Room 110, Cincinnati, Ohio also provides fingerprinting services for a fee 24 hours/7 days a week and can be reached at (513) 946-6221. For those who need scanned prints via WebCheck for BCI or the FBI, the closest location is the Montgomery License Bureau in the Montgomery Square Shopping Center.  Dates, times and fees are subject to change so please call ahead for updated information 891-2284.

The Police and Fire Departments inspect all commercial buildings annually and residential buildings upon request to provide helpful hints on making your home as safe as possible. Call the Safety Center at 513-985-1600 to schedule a HomeSAFE check.

The City of Montgomery Neighborhood Watch Program is a crime prevention tool, which enlists the active participation of citizens in cooperation with the Montgomery Police Department, and the Ohio Crime Prevention Association to reduce crime in the city. Networks of neighbors are trained by crime prevention officers regarding how to protect themselves and their property, as well as how to serve effectively as additional eyes and ears for law enforcement.  If you are interested in becoming involved with this important program, please call the Montgomery Police Department at (513) 985-1600.

Often the biggest dilemmas for online buyers and sellers is where to meet and their personal safety.  The Montgomery Police Department has designated their parking lot at 10150 Montgomery Road as a “Safe Zone” for buyers and sellers to safely meet and carry out their transactions. The key benefit of this project is that an ill-intended buyer or seller is less likely to victimize someone at a police department. The police officers are not involved in facilitating the transactions but the Department hopes to offer a “Safe Zone” where users will have the peace of mind that if needed, officers are not far away. Additionally, we recommend that prior to setting up the transaction you do the following;

• Clarify all details of the transaction and get a description of who will be at the transaction and what type of vehicle they will be in.
• The buddy system is always a good idea as well.  Bring a friend or family member to the transaction.
• Conduct the transaction during daylight hours.
• If they hesitate at all about meeting at a police department, that is a hint to end the deal.
• Unless absolutely necessary, do not reveal your home address.
• Keep a safe distance from the other person and never get in their vehicle.
• Visualize an escape route in the event you need to get out of a bad situation.
• If you feel uncomfortable about any aspect of the transaction, trust your instincts and move on.

The City of Montgomery conducts Safety Village every summer for children, ages 5 and 6. Safety Village is a one-week, summer safety camp where children learn about various aspects of child safety.

What is Safety Village?

Safety Village is designed to help children make wise decisions in potentially dangerous situations, as well as how to handle emergencies they may encounter. Students learn basic pedestrian and traffic safety rules, personal safety, animal, water, school bus, and fire safety.

Where and when is Safety Village held?

Safety Village is held at Montgomery Elementary, new since 2018. Montgomery Elementary is located at 9609 Montgomery Road.

• Dates for the sessions are usually in June of each year.
• Each week offers morning classes from 9:00 a.m. to noon or afternoon classes from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Who conducts Safety Village?

The Montgomery Police and the Montgomery Fire Department coordinate and direct the safety program.

• Children will be instructed by a Montgomery police officer and two certified teachers, with assistance from junior high, high school, and college students.
• Safety specialists will visit the classes and teach about their respective areas of expertise.

Who can participate in Safety Village?

Children who reside in the City of Montgomery may attend free of charge. Children of nonresidents may also attend, but for a fee of $25 each. Payment is due upon registration, with checks made payable to the City of Montgomery.
